End of Season 2008

Sat here in June, I really can’t believe another Season is already over. 2007-2008 has been another terrific year which has seen the Club continue its meteoric rise and firmly establish itself at the forefront of football development in the north of the County.

Over the Season, I’ve managed to see many of our teams in training and playing competitive matches in the 3 leagues in which we are represented. Whilst all teams are subtly different, the Club’s organisation and underlying quality of the coaches delivery are a welcome constant and reflected in the kids passion and enthusiasm for the beautiful game. Yes, it has been great to win silverware but our mission to be as inclusive as possible continues. I am particularly pleased that in the face of our rapid expansion, we have managed to retain the ‘small’ family club feel with a positive, welcoming atmosphere at all ages.

The dedication of our coaches and volunteers continues to underpin the success of our club. Carl Beattie and Adam Harris have been the latest coaches to brave the highly demanding Level 2 course whilst many other parents have put a lot of effort into getting their FA Level 1 Coaching badge, becoming important additions to ‘Team Longhoughton’. In particular, it is great to see the football mums come to the fore with Carolyn Cass, Nicki Pennigton and Sally Wood not only running the girls teams but taking pivotal roles on the Rural Fives League Committee. In addition Rachel Smart and Jo Robinson have gained their Level 1, transforming their dining tables into tactics boards!

Rod Munday (a new Dad, well done mate!) has led the Longhoughton Village Development Trust in its efforts to build a Community Facility and with it a worthy base for the Club. With Planning Permission now underway, we hope for a positive result in reward for all the time and effort that the LVDT team have invested in this outstanding project.

The Club continues to be an important part of the community and notably coaches, led by Bob Pattinson, have delivered free football to Longhoughton Primary school as part of the school curriculum. Further the Club played a pivotal role in assisting the school gain its FA Charter Standard, a great effort from all involved.

Plans for next season are well underway and we have entered 5 teams into the Sunday NABC 11 a-side League whilst we will continue enter teams at all age groups into the Glendale and girls Rural Fives League.

Lastly, a huge thank you to all our valued sponsors for their record levels of support; it is much appreciated.

Season 2008-2009 should be another exciting year for everyone at the Club; hold onto your hats!!
